        1.0 GENERAL

        1.1 SECTION INCLUDES

             A. Custom wood lockers and accessories

        1.2 RELATED SECTIONS

        A. Section 10500 – Wood Blocking and curbing: Wood grounds and attachment strips

        B. Section 10500 – Finish Carpentry: Related trim not specified in this section.

        1.3 REFERENCES

        A. Minimum standard for wood lockers shall conform to AWI (Architectural Woodwork Institute) Architectural Woodwork Quality Standard Illustrated.

        1.4 QUALITY ASSURANCE

        A. Product Data: Available upon request, including:

        1. Preparation instructions and recommendations.

        2. Storage and handling requirement and recommendations.

        3. Installation Methods.

        4. Product date specific to materials used in construction of locker.

        B. Shop Drawings: Indicate locker plan layout for List Industries contracted installations, component profiles and elevations, schedule of finishes, and accessories.

        1.6 PRODUCT DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

        A. Store Products in a dry, ventilated area until ready for installation.

        B. Protect finishes from moisture, soiling, and damage during handling.

        1.7 PROJECT CONDITIONS

        A. Maintain environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, and ventilation) within limits recommended by manufacturer for optimum results. Do not install products under environmental conditions outside the manufacture’s absolute limits.

        B. During and after installation, maintain same temperature and humidity conditions in building spaces as will occur after occupancy.


        2.0 PRODUCTS

        2.1 MANUFACTURES (Basis of Design –Recruiter Wood Sports Locker)

        A. Acceptable Manufacturer: Hallowell

        B. Substitutions: Not Permitted.

        C. Requests for substitutions will be considered in accordance with provisions of Section 01600.

        2.2 MATERIALS

        A. Locker Body: Wood Lockers shall be fabricated from ¾” Plain Slice Red Oak Plywood, Hardwood or Veneer throughout, including sides, backs, grates, seats and upper and lower shelves.

        B. Locker Trim: Face trim, Shelf valances, personal effects locker doors, seat front nosing, seating hinge support blocking and seat support cleats to be fabricated from Red Oak Lumber. PVC edging will not be allowed.

        C. Upper Shelf: Top shelf shall be covered with Wilson Art 7888-60 Golden Oak plastic laminate to protect from moisture and durability.

        D. Vertical Seams: Hardwood Oak Trim to be installed between each locker to eliminate vertical seams.  PVC edge banding will not be allowed.

        E. Standard Hardware: Hanging hooks are to be double prong metal coat hooks,  Clothes hang bar to be KV 1 1/16” diameter Chrome plated steel, .075” wall thickness, Hinges for Upper security Box door to be a continuous hinge in bright brass plating.

        F. Locks: To be Master Lock #1655 programmable combination locks.  Each locker to be keyed alike, but each locker is to have its own set of combinations that are different from each other, and two Master keys are to be supplied. 

        G. Finish: Two coats of a formaldehyde-free catalyzed conversion varnish (no lacquer).

        F. One Year Warranty: Hallowell Recruiter lockers are covered against all defects in materials and workmanship excluding finish, damage resulting from deliberate destruction and vandalism under this section for a period of one year.

         

        2.3 FABRICATION

        A. Locker shall be fabricated using hidden fasteners.  All screws must be hidden and use of glue added for strength.  Doweled construction will not be allowed.

        B. Fabricate lockers square, rigid, and without warp, with the finished faces flat and free of scratches and chips.

        C. Machine all parts and attachment holes accurately and without chips.

         

        3.0 EXECUTION

        3.1 EXAMINATION

        A. Do not begin installation until adjacent substrates and finishes have been properly prepared.

        B. Verify prepared bases are in correct position and configuration.

        C. If preparation is the responsibility of another installer, notify Architect of unsatisfactory preparation before proceeding.

        3.2 PREPARATION

        A. Clean surfaces thoroughly prior to installation.

        B. Prepare surfaces using the methods recommended by the manufacture for achieving the best results for the substrate under the project conditions.

        3.3 INSTALLATION

        A. Install in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions.

        B. Set and secure lockers in place; rigid, plumb, and level.

        C. Use concealed joint fasteners to align and secure adjoining cabinet units.

        D. Installer to install use factory supplied splines and blind screw locations to conceal mounting hardware and vertical seams. Also, in the extremely rare case where surface connection is necessary, installer to use metal connector bolts in a decorative finish that compliments the species of wood for specific project. For example, Installer will use metal connection bolt using antique bronze for Red Oak, or chrome for Maple.

        E. Secure lockers with anchor devices to suit substrate material. Minimum Pullout Force: 100lb (445 N).

        F. Install end panels, filler panels, tops and bases as indicated on the approved shop drawings.

        G. Install accessories.

        3.4 ADJUSTING

        A. Adjust moving or operating parts to function smoothly and correctly.

        3.5 CLEANING

        A. Clean locker interiors and exterior surfaces upon completion of installation.

        3.6 PROTECTION

        A. Protect installed product until completion of project.

        B. Touch-up, repair, replace damaged before Substantial Completion.
